Clean Install Neon Kde Linux on PC - Installation Guide Step by Step


KDE neon is a Linux operating system developed by KDE aimed at those who want a stable system with advanced features and easy to use.

KDE Neon is a Linux distribution based on the Ubuntu Long-Term Support (LTS) release. KDE Neon is leveraged with the KDE Plasma desktop and various other KDE applications.

KDE claims that its operating system
has the most customizable desktop environment in the world, and there's no denying that. To taste Plasma the desktop environment of KDE neon is to take the risk of not being able to go back, and of not appreciating the other desktop environments any more.

DOWNLOAD NEON KDE LINUX AND ETCHER TOOL

You need an ISO image of Neon Kde OS Linux. You can Download it from the Official Neon Kde OS Linux download page. You also need a 8GB USB Flash drive which will be used as a bootable installation medium.


To install Neon Kde OS Linux, you need to write your downloaded ISO to a USB stick to create the installation media. This is not the same as copying the ISO, and requires some bespoke software.

For this tutorial, we’ll use balenaEtcher, as it runs on Linux, Windows and Mac OS. Choose the version that corresponds to your current operating system, download and install the tool.



CREATE A BOOTABLE USB STICK

Step 1: Insert the USB flash drive into your computer.

Step 2: Double-click on the balenaEtcher download file to run the app. Press Flash from file to select the downloaded Neon Kde OS ISO file on your computer.


Step 3: Press Select target and choose the correct USB flash drive from the list.


Step 4: Press Flash! to begin writing Neon Kde OS Linux to the USB flash drive.


After a few minutes, the USB flash drive will be ready for booting into Neon Kde OS Linux.

INSTALL NEON KDE LINUX STEP BY STEP

Step 1: Insert the USB flash drive into your computer.

Step 2: While the system would restart and initialize start pressing F9 (or Del or F10 or F12 or Esc) to display Boot Menu. The key could be different on different make and model, try other keys as per Make and Model of your machine.

Step 3: From the Boot Menu, select Flash Drive as Boot Device and Hit Enter. It may be at different serial number in different systems. Wait for the system to Boot from the Flash Drive.


Step 4: On startup, select KDE neon .

Step 5: Wait while checking files.


Step 6: On the Desktop, click Install System.


Step 7: In the KDE neon installer, select the American English language.


Step 8: Select the your region, then click Next.


Step 9: Select the keyboard layout, then click Next.


Step 10: To install KDE neon on the entire disk, select Erase disk.


Step 11: Create your user account, name your computer, password then click Install.


Step 12: Wait while installing KDE neon.


Step 13: Once the installation is complete, leave the Restart now box checked and click Done.


Step 14: Remove the installation USB Drive and press Enter.


Step 15: When the computer boots, you come to GRUB the Linux boot manager. By default, KDE neon is selected, after 30 seconds, it starts automatically.

Step 16: Log in with your user account.


You have arrived on the desktop of your new operating system!


WHAT TO DO AFTER INSTALLING NEON KDE LINUX

Update Neon Kde Linux using command line in the Terminal

All you have to do is to fire up the Terminal emulator app or another terminal emulator of your choice.

Let’s try and update the system using:

sudo pkcon update

Followed by your password.


Now try this:

sudo apt-get full-upgrade


In some cases, you may need to reboot your Neon Kde system for the installed updates to work properly.
