Sometimes Windows shows a strange error message when you try to delete a file. The message reads “could not find this item” and it prevents you from deleting the file. It’s pretty obvious you’re trying to delete something that already exists on your machine but the error says otherwise.
It is certainly annoying because you know the file is not being used by another program. The problem object just won’t move to Recycle Bin no matter how many times you hit the Delete key. The most common reasons for this error are that the files were corrupted, had been using an invalid name, or could not be successfully unlocked after closing down.

HOW TO DELETE UNDELETABLE FOLDER
We try many attempts like system re-start, shift-delete, delete from command, etc. However, below are the easiest techniques which will help you to resolve this issue. Fix “Could Not Find This Item” / “This is no longer located in” errors easily:
METHOD 1: USING SIMPLE COMMAND
If you’re having trouble using File Explorer to delete your file, one option is to use the Command Prompt. It has one commands to work with your file system and lets you delete files from your storage.
Step 1: Open Command Prompt with Administrative privileges.
Step 2: Enter below command rd /s "\\?\(path of the folder)
Step 3: It will prompt as Are you sure (Y/N)?
Step 4: Enter Y and hit enter.
That’s all.
METHOD 2: DELETE FILES AFTER ARCHIVING
Step 1: Right click on the folder and Select Add to archive option (Make sure that you have WinRAR installed on your machine).
Step 2: Tick Delete files after archiving check box displayed under Archiving options section.
Step 3: Leave all other settings as they are and click OK button.
Step 5: Now you may delete this yourfile.rar file whenever needed.
That's all.
- Open Command Prompt with Administrative privileges.
- Navigate to the parent folder
- e.g. E:\Document\(To be Delete folder)
- Enter "dir /x" command and hit enter.
- Please note the letters mentioned to the left side of (To be Delete folder).
- You will see some string like this >> TOBEDE~1
- Now type below command and hit enter.
- ren TOBEDE~1 YourNewName
- Now type below command and hit enter.
- del YourNewName
- That’s all.
